atyp has been bridging the divide between young people and professional theatre practice since 1963. Australia’s oldest and largest youth theatre company, we are driven to create work that impacts the way young people engage with theatre nationally.
Australian Theatre for Young People specialises in integrating professional theatre practice with supportive youth theatre process. We love working with all levels of the arts industry, from the most celebrated national companies to the smallest youth theatres. Our work supports young people from their first theatre experience to their first professional production.
Our Vision is to forever raise the national expectation of what theatre with young people can achieve.
We do this through four inter-linked aspirations:
1. Be a fearless theatre company with a national impact that all levels of the industry love to work with.
2. Build an active playwriting community that champions and supports young artists and their work.
3. Be the first place teachers turn to for inspiration and support in drama education.
4. Maintain a vibrant creative hub and company culture that young people around the country want to be a part of.

Thousands of people have passed through atyp since its inception in 1963, and in many capacities: workshop participant, tutor, staff member, Board Director, member of production casts and crews. All are recognised as alumni of the company.

Tutors
All atyp tutors are trained industry professionals with strong teaching experience. Our team is proficient in specialities as diverse as circus and musical theatre, whilst offering expert tuition in acting, devising and direction for young people.
