Fresh Ink> Fresh Ink: 14-17

Fresh Ink: 14-17 is atyp's first partnership with the NSW Department of Education Arts Unit.
The 9-month program began in 2009 with 9 young writers from Sydney Public Schools for ages 14-17.
Working beside the Fresh Ink program, the program provides skills' development, mentorship support and an opportunity for writers to test out their scripts. A number of excursions to live theatre allow the group to experience a range of live theatre.
The program offers a clear pathway for writers to build skills. The program will include:
- a program of 25 two-hour weekly workshops to enable young writers to develop skills in script writing,
- matching writers with mentors who nurture and support them through four one-on-one meetings in the course of the program,
- a public reading of the young writers’ scripts at the culmination of the program (scripts produced in collaboration with professional directors, actors and other writers; to be considered for further production as part of atyp’s program.),
- an opportunity for young writers to be subsidised to regularly experience live theatre and meet with practitioners to enhance their understanding of theatre,
- a pathway to the Fresh Ink program as well as other opportunities for emerging writers for the stage.
Commencing each year in July, Fresh Ink: 14-17 will meet weekly at atyp after school during school terms. The program is open to any public school student in Years 9-11 from the Sydney metropolitan area. Students will be selected on their ability to demonstrate potential as script writers and interest in participating and collaborating with artists and writers in the program.
Fresh Ink: 14-17 gives a head start to a generation of young writers.
