ATYP MEMBERS WIN BEST PLAY & BEST ACTRESS AT 2009 FAST & FRESH FESTIVAL!

Fast+Fresh is the little brother of Short+Sweet - the largest short play festival in the world. It has been developed to offer writers, directors and performers who are 18 years and under the chance to showcase their talents. All plays entered must be 10 minutes or less in duration and must be written and performed by people who are 18 years of age or younger. Directors can be over 18 (for example a teacher, parent or other responsible adult).
2009 Best Play & Best Actress Winner, atyp member LAURA HOPKINSON reports:
Recently Natasha Bassett, Claudia Osbourne and I joined forced to compete in Australia's Fast + Fresh Festival, a tournament of ten-minute plays written and performed by under-18s across the country.
Our play focused on the early-childcare industry as a workplace - and all the shenanigans that ensue. After approximately 6 weeks of writing, re-writing, improvising, rehearsing, forgetting lines and learning them again, we eventually patched together a nifty little ten-minute piece of theatre to put to the judging panel.
On 28th May 2009, the three of us waddled into Parramatta Riverside Theatres, with 1 giant storage tub of toys, 2 plastic infant chairs and a giant exercise ball, and clambered into the dressing room in anticipation.
The night was a great success, winning our heat and progressing through to the next round, we went on to perform with the ten best short plays in the festival and were ecstatic to have been awarded prizes for Best Actress and Best Play.
We would love to thank atyp so much for its support and encouragement, especially that of production manager, Lori Piquemal and Dutch intern, Monique Tax.
As a result of our victory our play has been included in the Short + Sweet program for 2010, the world's largest short play festival for over-18s. See you all next March!
