Australian Theatre for Young People’s home in Studio 1 at The Wharf has always been a space in which emerging theatre makers can create, challenge, explore, argue, collaborate and be counted. Now we are handing it over. You get the keys to the venue. Show us what you can do.
The program is a launchpad for young adults establishing a career in theatre. At its heart Under The Wharf is a season of five plays pitched by young creative teams. The program enables emerging artists and companies an opportunity to stage their own work at minimum expense. We don’t care whether it’s new plays, classics, international or hybrid work, so long as the narrative is driven by a character 26 years or younger and you’re prepared to take a risk.
Supporting the season is a monthly program of play readings and discussions programmed by a panel of young theatre makers. Every session is open to anyone who would like to come. And every session is free.
