Welcome to Australian Theatre for Young People’s 2010 program. I hope you will find something that kindles your imagination and piques an interest to be involved in performance, either as an artist or an audience member.
This year our activities have been designed to fit one simple, overwhelming principle. I should warn you from the outset though, if you are hoping to be shocked, you might need to sit down. Our philosophy isn’t terribly new, it’s not technologically advanced, and it is by no means revolutionary. But we love it. It’s why we are here. It’s what made us famous.
We do what it says on the tin.
Every activity is designed to support young people in Australia devising, writing and staging plays and performances. Wherever we can. As often as we can. Working with the best artists in the country. The Australian Theatre for Young People specialises in putting young people centre stage.
In 2010 we are proud to present five plays to challenge your expectations of youth theatre. The season is supported by one of the most diverse theatre development programs in the country. Whatever your background, whether you like telling tales or listening to others tell theirs, we hope there is something here for you.
I hope to see you down here at The Wharf.
