Fresh Ink is atyp’s ongoing national program to support the development of young playwrights. This event will present the staged reading of several original relevant scripts written by young writers. The readings will be brought to life by atyp actors and professional directors. Our Fresh Ink writers will be eager for feedback from their peers as part of an informal Q&A.

We can also offer a special writing workshop. Working with an experienced tutor and a Fresh ink writer your students will do a range of fun practical exercises that will get them skilled up with all the basics they need to write and devise. Why not book a full day excursion?

Citizenship by Mark Ravenhill @ atyp’s Studio 1

‘One of his very best plays. Ravenhill captures excellently the sexual insecurity of adolescence as well as the infinite curiosity.’  Guardian

A brilliantly funny play about identity.

In this bittersweet comedy about growing up, Tom, a 16 year old boy, dreams of being kissed. He’s unsure whether it is by a man, or a woman. Tom’s favourite teacher, Mr. deClerk is unable to offer advice due to 'school policy', so Tom decides to experiment on his own.

A hit with young audiences across the UK and Ireland, Ravenhill’s acclaimed play captures the sexual insecurity of adolescence with pathos and humanity.

Brought to life by young atyp actors, under the experienced direction of Lee Lewis (STC and B-Sharp), this production will engage school audiences in a relevant contemporary setting – relevant for grades 10 – 12.

A Q&A session with Lee and cast members will follow each performance. Topics covered will be:

-          issues examined in the play – social acceptance, tolerance and friendship

-          the process of realising the text as a production - choices made in elements of production, acting style

-          translating the text to an Australian context
