“…one of the most compelling Australian theatreworks I have seen.”
Robin Grove, The Age (review of original production)
VX18504 was the army service number of Sergeant Mick (Clifford Matthew) Tankard, Meryl Tankard's father.
In this exuberant and thought-provoking blend of theatre and dance, Meryl Tankard explores the origins of conflict in our society, from childhood cruelty and backyard brawls to the ravages of war. Profoundly moving, this unique theatrical experience, amplified by the humour, optimism and boundless energy of a youthful cast speaks to audiences of all ages.
VX18504 was originally created for Meryl Tankard’s Company in Canberra, this new production will be performed by Australia’s leading theatre company for young people, atyp, with visual imagery by artist, Regis Lansac.
Meryl Tankard is one of Australia’s most internationally acclaimed choreographers. Her vast body of work includes Furioso (Australian Dance Theatre), Wild Swans (Australian Ballet), the Opening Ceremony of the 2000 Olympic Games, Kaidan (2007 Sydney Festival), Tarzan, on Broadway, and The Beautiful Game, on the West End.
