atyp Devious Devising: GROUP PROJECTS
SUITABILITY High School years 9 – 12
Launch students into practical ways to develop HSC confidence in the essential skills of group devising. atyp tutors encourage students to move away from naturalism, using energetic and imaginative approaches to improvisation and storytelling. The session involves exploration of different responses to a shared point of departure, brainstorming, story-building, developing physical style and creating dramatic symbols: A great way to break the ice and start to build positive group dynamics.
atyp Going Solo: INDIVIDUAL PROJECTS
SUITABILITY High School years 10 – 12
Breathe life into a selection of short poems, monologues, stories or journalistic writings. Using improvisation and character work, find and sustain a role, build an imaginary world and play with original uses of space and movement. Begin to find the dramatic journey of a piece, focus physical and vocal acting skills and build stage presence and confidence.
atyp Devious Devising: PHYSICAL THEATRE
SUITABILITY High School years 9 – 12
This session offers a practical way into giving performance a physical edge, using simple techniques practised safely. Explore balance, shape, trust and focus and find ways to use the whole body to choreograph the key elements into a successful physical and graphic story.
atyp In Performance: AUSTRALIAN DRAMA
SUITABILITY High School years 10 – 12
The 7 Stages of Grieving, Ruby Moon, The Summer of the Seventeenth Doll or No Sugar
Identify how the elements of drama are used to communicate story and ideas in one of four key Australian plays through practical improvisation and acting exercises. Look at the interplay between theatrical images, styles and conventions and decide how they affect audience engagement and understanding in the themes of the plays. Discuss how themes from the Australian theatrical canon resonate with current issues and concerns.
Please note that to study more than one text you will need to book min 2x2 hr workshops.

TERM 4 New Workforce: CAREERS IN THEATRE
SUITABILITY High School Students from years 10 – 12
This session is a practical exploration of the possibilities of a theatre career, led by atyp staff and young guest tutor. Starting from the students’ own understanding and experience, the workshop brainstorms all areas of the profession. We consider the pleasures and pitfalls of a working life in the arts, explore the process of gathering a portfolio of skills, building networks and finding training opportunities. New Workforce offers lively, fun and realistic input into your school careers’ education program, providing examples from the working lives of young, emerging artists.

TERM 4 atyp devious devising: MUSICAL THEATRE
SUITABILITY High School Drama and Music students from years 10 – 12
To accompany our new piece of devised music theatre Gen-Y, we are offering a workshop which shows you how to integrate a music element into your group performances, and how to get to grips with the acting element of sung performance. The session plays with lyrics, music and song and allows you to explore the relationship between music and character, story and emotion. The session is led by Chris Parson and Sacha Kilgour, experienced performers and teachers with a flair for unlocking the voice and the performer in you.
