AUDITION OPPORTUNITY
GEN-Y DEVISED MUSICAL THEATRE
Directed by Chris Parson and Sacha Kilgour with atyp performers aged 15-26
The Media creation of Generation Y, referring to those born in and around 1980-95, has painted the image of young people as demanding, impatient, consumer-driven, and ego-fuelled with no regard for authority. Yet sometimes they’re described by an entirely different set of behaviours: reclusive, withdrawn, caught up in digital media and disconnected from the real world.
Sociological branding of generations is nothing new, but has the media sensationalised reports of this group’s behaviours? Or are they, in fact, a product of modern media? A highly dramatic, inventive, risqué burlesque cabaret exposing the lies, the truths, ideas and ideals of the real and invented members of GEN-Y.....
Alongside directors Sacha Kilgour and Chris Parson, you will be instrumental in creating the material that features in the production. Delve into the issues and pressures of being a young person in 2008 as you investigate the popular perceptions that exist and then mould your discussions and findings into music theatre moments that truly capture the GEN-Y experience.
AUDITION DATE: Sunday 7 September
(potential second audition and call back on Sunday 14 September)
Participants must become an atyp member to audition, $40 annual fee.
TIME: 10 am (morning session) or 2 pm (afternoon session)
LOCATION: The Wharf, Pier 4/5 Hickson Road
AUDITION PREPARATION: This audition will include both group and individual components. Please prepare a contemporary monologue (under 2 mins) and contemporary song (either acapella or with backing track. Please prepare at least 16 bars.)

SPRING HOLIDAYS: Evening rehearsals during 29 September-10 October

NOVEMBER-DECEMBER: Two evenings per week plus Sunday, 10am-5pm
PERFORMING: December 13-18
