Fresh Ink
National Young Writers' Initiative

Fresh Ink is atyp's trail-blazing ongoing program to encourage and develop the skills of young playwrights across Australia.

The Fresh Ink program incorporates:

  1. Web resources: Fresh Ink begins here with an impressive set of resources comprising interviews with some of Australia’s leading playwrights.
  2. Script assessment: In the future we will offer low cost script assessment so young writers can get constructive feedback on their play from a professional writer.
  3. National Writers' camp: 15 young writers who submit scripts for assessment will be selected to come to Sydney from wherever they live in Australia for one week of master classes, readings and visits to the theatre.
  4. Productions: In 2008 some of the plays from this group of young writers will be given full productions within atyp's performance season.
  5. The resources remain on our website to help any young playwright across Australia at any time.

The resources will be linked to this website in September but to stay in the loop about the whole program you must register for Fresh Ink – and you can do that now.

Register here.

You will only find out about stages 2, 3 and 4 by registering and being a part of the Fresh Ink group.

National Studio
Each year since 2000 atyp has conducted an annual national workshop studio. Every year this studio has brought together up to 30 outstanding young artists to the one location for master class workshops with some of Australia's leading performance practitioners.  Each young artist is a selected representative from youth theatre companies across Australia.  Since 2005 National Studio has also included participation by the Artistic Directors and creative leaders from each youth theatre company.
