SOLD OUT - Session 1: Acting for Camera with Felix Williamson- Sat 4 May

Cover the basics (hitting your mark, continuity and taking direction) followed by more in-depth character work, developing ‘presence’, and tips for learning lines and acting with confidence on camera. Participants will gain experience with performing both individually and in pairs on screen as well as presenting with flair.

Participants will explore the language and meaning of Shakespeare’s work, rehearse Shakespearean text, and perform with direction. Most auditions require a Shakespearean monologue – this session will give participants feedback and new methods for performance.

Explore a variety of approaches to script work – from the first read-through to working on character, blocking, rehearsal and performance. Participants will use scripts from a number of genres of film, TV and theatre, and work on their artistic choices, how to interpret text, and how to direct and produce work from scripts.

This session will introduce participants to vocal technique, confidence and range, as well as basic accent training. Students will begin to free and strengthen their voices by finding the connection between voice, the body and emotion. There will also be special attention paid to vocal warm ups, characterisation through vocal ability and clear and concise delivery.

Explore core Jacques Lecoq principles of performance in order to use your body in non-traditional ways. You will explore Lecoq exercises such as flocking, positions, the magic chair, the telephone, the 7 levels of tension and the elements. Participants will also work on storytelling through movement, devising from physical action and moving with intention.

Learn how to create and embody an original, truthful and complex character through improvisation, movement and voice. You will also explore character through text – working on monologues from well-known plays to tease out, explore and establish character with a focus on physicalisation, voice, sub text and intention.

The ability to take direction is a core skill of an actor. In this session participants will focus on how to respond to direction, making emotional and physical choices, processing and applying feedback to both audition pieces and scenes. Participants will explore the role of the Director from an actor’s perspective, and how to process and implement feedback and direction.

This class will explore the process of auditioning – how to choose the correct pieces, how to ‘be yourself’ and make an impact. You will experience auditioning in a group situation, performing with integrity and creativity. Participants will work on their vocal and physical performance skills, script interpretation, and identifying areas of growth and potential.

War Horse: Meet the Makers - BOOK NOW
With Cast and Creatives from War Horse
Join us for an exclusive opportunity to learn from the masters! Devised by puppeteers and actors from the National Theatre of Great Britain, this practical, performance-based workshop is designed to give participants hands on experience and understanding of how to create characters through the use of puppetry techniques employed in the production of War Horse.
When: Wednesday 29 and Thursday 30 May
Where: Lyric Theatre, The Star, Pyrmont
Show Time: Wednesday at 1:00pm
Workshop Time: Thursday from 10:30am – 12:30pm
