A person sits cross-legged on a chair in a small group discussion, speaking with their hands raised mid-gesture. They wear glasses and a dark jumper, with notebooks on their lap. Several people sit around them listening. The setting appears informal, with concrete walls and wooden slats behind them, suggesting a workshop or creative discussion space in the evening.

Cultivate Foundations is a program for emerging artists who are taking their first steps and identify as CaLD, First Nations, artists with disability, fat, queer, or simply those who have felt outside the mainstream of Australian theatre.

The program is open to theatre-makers of all disciplines. Through monthly workshops, participants will explore the fundamentals of storytelling, and create a pitch for a new work. Through this process, they will develop the skills and confidence to lay down the foundations of compelling theatre while exploring their authentic artistic voice.

Participants will be mentored by writer, musician and dramaturg Jules Orcullo, along with a series of industry professionals.

This program is an expansion of ATYP's Cultivate for dramaturgs of colour, developed by Jane FitzGerald and Jenevieve Chang.
