Our Impact
Harnessing the transformational power of theatre to enhance the lives of young people
At ATYP, we believe in the power of theatre to empower the next generation of storytellers and audiences, igniting the creative spirit of young Australians, and providing them with the tools to enrich Australia’s cultural life with their stories.
Alongside our artist development programs, we extend access through our Regional Connections Program, bringing workshops and performances to communities with limited arts resources, and our Juvenile Justice Program, which gives young people in justice settings a platform to create and be heard.
These pathways connect young storytellers to mentors, training and real performance opportunities – ensuring talent can grow no matter where a young person lives or what barriers they face.

Loneliness is one of the most urgent challenges facing young people today, with 87% identifying it as a major issue for themselves and their peers. ATYP believes theatre can help address this growing concern.
Through our work with schools and communities, we’ve seen that theatre programs reduce isolation and build wellbeing by creating safe spaces for connection, collaboration and self-expression. Young people are asking for opportunities to come together – and ATYP provides exactly that.
With half of all serious adult mental health issues beginning before age 14, our programs offer vital protective factors, building confidence, resilience and a sense of belonging.
