Welcome to 2026

Where artists lead, and new Australian stories thrive.

ATYP has sparked the creative voices of young Australians for more than sixty years. Now we begin a new chapter - one that places artist-led programming and genuine development pathways for emerging talent at the centre of our work.

At the heart of this new chapter is a refreshed pipeline that invites young people in at any stage – developing skills through our Learning Program, shaping their creative voice in our Emerging Artist Programs, or engaging with bold new stories in our Performance Season.

And in 2026, this Performance Season brings four Australian stories to life, showcasing the writers, performers, creative and technical leaders emerging from this pipeline.

This next chapter is more than a new program – it's a declaration. That youth is leadership. That creativity begins with opportunity. And that the next chapter of Australian theatre begins here – at ATYP, where stories start.

Our artist development programs invite emerging artists (18–26) to build their practice in a supportive, professional environment. With mentorship across all areas of theatre and pathways to develop new work, these programs help young creatives refine their craft and create original Australian stories shaped by their own voice.
