Your Visit

Getting the most out of your visit to ATYP

ATYP's premises at Walsh Bay feature two iconic performance venues: our flagship theatre The Rebel and our black box space The Popsy. Each perfectly combine the heritage features of Pier 2/3 with the contemporary needs of our artists and audiences.

The Rebel

The Rebel Theatre is the place where ATYP’s mission comes to life. For over 60 years, ATYP has championed young people as storytellers, empowering them to share their perspectives and learn through theatre. The Rebel Theatre, named in honour of alumna and Ambassador Rebel Wilson, gives that mission a permanent home.

This state-of-the-art venue provides a dedicated space for young Australians to perform, to learn their craft alongside professionals, and to have their voices heard on a national stage. With seating for 180, modern production facilities, and a program of new Australian works, The Rebel hosts our mainstage season and is where the next generation of storytellers step confidently into the spotlight.

Alongside The Rebel, ATYP also programs work in The Popsy – our flexible black box space within Pier 2/3. The Popsy is named in honour of Antoinette Albert (“Popsy”), who founded the ATYP Foundation and served as Chair and long-standing Board member. Her leadership and vision were instrumental in ensuring ATYP had the resources to grow and flourish, and her legacy continues through the opportunities created in this dedicated space.

The Popsy provides a more intimate setting for new ideas, workshops, and experimental works – a space for testing, playing and innovating. When booking tickets, check whether your performance is in The Rebel or The Popsy and follow signage on arrival.
