For the next generation of Australian storytellers

Australia is developing its National Cultural Policy – and we need to make sure children and young people are at the heart of it. The National Youth Arts Network has made four recommendations to ensure the policy recognises young people as active participants in our cultural life, not just future audiences.

Our Recommendations

National Inclusion

Include Children and Young People as a pillar of the national cultural plan.

Funding for participation

Establish a cross-portfolio funding stream for youth arts participation, alongside Health, Employment, Education & Youth Justice.

Funding for organisations

Establish a sustained national funding stream for children and young people's arts organisations.

Youth Advisory Committee

Establish a standing Youth Advisory Committee for Creative Australia, managed independently by the Youth Arts sector.

About NYAN

Advocating for young Australian voices

The National Youth Arts Network (NYAN) is a consortium of Youth Arts organisations from across Australia brought together by a shared commitment to the artistic, cultural, and social contribution of young people. First convened at the FUSE Conference in 2022 at the Australian Theatre for Young People, the Network advocates for a sustained national focus on Youth Arts – as a practice of cultural participation, a driver of wellbeing and social cohesion, and a critical pipeline for Australia's arts sector, now and into the future.
