An unfurnished flat, strewn with yet to be unpacked removal boxes and unsupervised by adults, would be a veritable playground for any child, yet for Maggie, fourteen, Elliot, fifteen and Finn, seven, this space has become a fortress. Here they bunker down, expertly avoiding the unwanted attentions of prying adults. Within these walls they will battle one another, in a bid to protect themselves from the unnamed enemy outside.
As they joke, tease, spit like fireworks and laugh like soul mates, and they just, keep, waiting. Waiting for the phone to ring. She’ll be calling soon. She’s never left them alone for this long.
Dancing a fine line between hilarity and heartache, Tusk Tusk is the new offering from 22-year-old English sensation Polly Stenham. Straight from a sell-out season at The Royal Court, London, to Wharf 1, this is a haunting theatre experience that will stay with you long after the performance has ended.
Presented by Australian Theatre for Young People and Sydney Theatre Company as part of its Next Stage Program
